The reason we do NOT offer RF microneedling at our London clinic

The reason we do NOT offer RF microneedling at our London clinic

Radiofrequency microneedling has become extremely popular the last few years. We have tried RF microneedling around 2014, way before it became popular around 2019 and all the rage around 2022, and found it lacking, both in terms of effectiveness and especially safety. In fact, we found the treatment quite horrid and gave back the machine after a few days of training (a doctor had to come from abroad specifically for us for the training) and after trying it with a few clients. The best way to understand the reasoning against RF microneedling is real world evidence, consisting of feedback and reviews from real people in the real world, as opposed to the virtual reality of instagram, tiktok or even science papers…

Can radiofrequency treatments cause spider veins?

Can radiofrequency treatments cause spider veins?

Deep-acting, high-power radiofrequency and deep-acting, high-power ultrasound cavitation are the strongest SAFE technologies for cellulite reduction and skin tightening. As both technologies produce heat (more with RF, less with ultrasound), and as both technologies are used with varyign levels of training and equipment quality, some people worry that their thread / spider veins may worsen.

At LipoTherapeia we have provided about 13,000 radiofrequency and ultrasound cavitation treatments in the last 14 years (January 2025) and we have never, ever had a problem with causing the creation of new thread veins (also known as spider veins or telangiectasia) or making existing ones worse. In theory, spider veins may become worse with the application of extreme heat (spider veins…

Can chokeberry and tart cherry juice prevent or reduce cellulite?

Can chokeberry and tart cherry juice prevent or reduce cellulite?

The plant chemicals ‘polyphenols’ are important in maintaining skin and blood vessel integrity, as well as in inhibiting fat accumulation. As such, they are important anti-cellulite agents. Polyphenols are mainly found in red, yellow, purple, blue and black berries and other plants (e.g. blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, black rice, black beans, adzuki beans, purple potatoes, purple broccoli…

Yerba mate vs ozempic: the facts

Yerba mate vs ozempic: the facts

The South American tea drink Yerba-Maté (Ilex paraguariensis) has been in the news again recently (April 2024) when tabloids hyped it up as “Football’s secret Ozempic", apparently because Lionel Messi drinks it, and David Beckham has tried it, so it must be a slimming superdrink - or words to that effect 😂

Skin: if you don't use it, you lose it

Skin: if you don't use it, you lose it

We usually say that for muscle mass: “if you don’t use it, you lose it”. If we don’t walk, play sports or do weights, we will gradually lose our muscle. This is especially true when we recover from injury or a long-lasting health condition, where we find ourselves with much less muscle, especially on the legs. You may also be aware that if we do not do weights or at least walk, i.e. if we somehow do…

What home remedy can I use for cellulite?

What home remedy can I use for cellulite?

Don’t bother much with topical remedies - as we will see below they don’t work nearly as well as a simplistic 2% caffeine cream.

In fact, a the best home remedies you can use for cellulite is clean are super-healthy foods, such as vegetables, salads, oily fish, vegetable juices, berry fruits, berry smoothies, lean protein (lean meat and poultry, fish/seafood and pulses), lots of herbs and spices and herbal teas. Green tea, gotu kola, pine bark, grape seed, bilberry, quercetin, hesperidin at other…

What vitamins help cellulite?

What vitamins help cellulite?

Healthy nutrition is essential for cellulite prevention and this applies equally to vitamins, minerals, polyphenols, carotenoids, fibre, omega-3 fatty acids and protein. These exact nutrients are the ones lacking in today’s Western diets and whose deficiency results in cellulite - usually in combination with an excess intake of sugar, unhealthy fats and carbs; a lack of exercise and physical activity; as well as smoking and the contraceptive pill. Regarding vitamins, they all have a role to play in cellulite prevention and they can somewhat contribute to its reduction, with perhaps vitamin C (ascorbic acid) being the most important, due to its antioxidant action and its important role on collagen…

Can HRT get rid of cellulite?

Can HRT get rid of cellulite?

Given that female hormones (estrogen, progesterone) are an essential cause of cellulite, HRT cannot possibly reduce cellulite, let alone “get rid of” it. In some cases, the lack of estrogen and progesterone during menopause can lead to loose skin, which can aggravate the appearance of cellulite. With HRT this effect will diminish and skin laxity (and consequent cellulite) may improve somewhat but don’t expect a significant…

What happens 10 years after a BBL?

What happens 10 years after a BBL?

If successful, BBL surgery lifts and enlarges the buttocks to create a beautiful, round firm shape. However, the quality of the skin on the buttocks itself does not change at all with a BBL. The only reason there is firmness after a BBL is because the skin has become taut due to the outward pressure of the added fat and - in some cases - the removal of excess skin. So if skin was thin and weak before a BBL, after some time (3-4 years)…

Estrogen and cellulite

Estrogen and cellulite

This is a very common question at the clinic: “It’s so unfair, why do women need to get cellulite and men not”? Well, there is an answer to that and in short it’s called estrogen. Generally, everybody, man or woman, can get cellulite if both two following conditions are met: their body is loaded with enough of the hormone estrogen - natural or artificial; and they ingest more calories than they spend and/or they sit down too much/walk too little. Estrogen on its own does NOT cause cellulite, neither inactivity…

Flax seed oil, anti-aging and cellulite

Flax seed oil, anti-aging and cellulite

In today’s Western world people consume not only too much saturated, hydrogenated or fried fats/oils, which are widely accepted as unhealthy. Such oils*, especially hydrogenated and fried fats/oils, are known to cause anything from heart disease to cancer to arthritis and of course overall aging, including skin aging and cellulite. Something which is generally unknown to most people is that we also consume too much omega-6 polyunsaturated oils, which are found literally everywhere: from processed foods, condiments, pastry and desserts to meat and chicken…

Are butt fillers better than BBL?

Are butt fillers better than BBL?

Is vaping better than smoking? Is saturated fat better than sugar? Are cocktails better than beer? Is death by heart disease better than death by stroke? As there is no good choice between the above options, there is also no good choice between non-surgical butt fillers (now pathetically known as “liquid BBL”) and surgical brazilian butt lift (“normal” BBL). Both choices have their risks and dangers, up to the point of death, with death from BBL being more common and death from liquid BBL also occurring…

Pterostilbene, the polyphenol in blueberries, inhibits fat accumulation and fights overweight and cellulite

Pterostilbene, the polyphenol in blueberries, inhibits fat accumulation and fights overweight and cellulite

Pterostilbene, a small molecular weight stilbenoid compound chemically related to resveratrol and found predominantly in black grapes, blueberries and other berries, has important anti-adipogenic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic and anticancer properties. Resveratrol is already widely known for its anti-ageing and anti-obesity properties and pterostilbene (3',5'-dimethoxy-resveratrol), being a more stable and more absorbable form of resveratrol, shows much more promise in fighting both ageing and fat accumulation…

At what age does cellulite get worse?

At what age does cellulite get worse?

At the clinic we have seen thousands of clients with cellulite over the years and these are our observations. Cellulite can start appearing at about 13-14 years of age for some young girls. During the mid teens (16-17) more and more teenagers develop cellulite these days, due to the use of contractive pill (for acne or contraception). The next age milestone for cellulite is at about 27-28, when most young women start to…

Will Ozempic and other GLP-1 drugs eliminate cellulite?

Will Ozempic and other GLP-1 drugs eliminate cellulite?

The rise of current GLP-1 receptor agonist drugs, such as Ozempic/Wegovy and Mounjaro, and the development of new ones with less side effects and possible oral administration (as opposed to current injection), is poised to reduce the incidence of overweight and obesity. However, can Ozempic/Wegovy, Mounjaro et al eliminate the cellulite appearance?

Loose skin after BBL reversal: how to tighten up and lift your skin again

Loose skin after BBL reversal: how to tighten up and lift your skin again

Apparently the BBL era is now over and the most dangerous cosmetic procedure is now on the wane. Big butts are gradually going out of fashion and a slimmer, or at least more balanced look, is now the new trend. The Kardashians are reported to have apparently reversed their BBLs - although they never admitted them in the first place and although millions of women around the world copied the non-admitted BBLs…

Soluble fibre (chia seeds, flax seeds and oats) and cellulite

Soluble fibre (chia seeds, flax seeds and oats) and cellulite

Digestive problems such as constipation, irritable bowel syndrome and leaky gut syndrome can make cellulite worse, due to the increased water retention and inflammation they cause (low grade inflammation and water retention are two important aspects of cellulite). Fibre, found in all vegetables and fruits, is beneficial for managing IBS, maintaining good digestion and keeping cholesterol and blood glucose level low, thereby contributing to good overall health...

Cellulite and the ketogenic diet

Cellulite and the ketogenic diet

The ketogenic diet is one of the most popular diets, used for weight loss and to help manage specific health conditions (diabetes, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and more). The ketogenic diet involves consuming a very small - to negligible - amount of carbohydrates, in order to lower glucose and insulin levels and lead to the production of ketones by the body. In the absence of glucose from carbohydrates the body produces ketones, which provide energy to the brain and other organs in glucose’s place...
