How our obsession with eating out causes cellulite

Of course I eat out but I see it as an occasional treat. When I eat out I do try to make healthy choices but I am also aware that almost certainly I will not be able to avoid sugar, hydrogenated fats, seed oils, salt, forever chemicals, BPA and some type of frying in my food. So if you care about your heart blood vessels and cellulite alike I advocate cooking at home from scratch most of the time and eating out occasionally - not every day or every other day.

London’s restaurant culture and cellulite

Our obsession with eating out and “discovering” new restaurants

London and the restaurant culture

London has “exciting restaurants” opening literally every day and offers endless opportunities for tasting different cuisines and innovative dining ideas.

However, some of those newfangled (and old) “dining ideas” can be quite detrimental for our health. Why in goodness’ name do we need to consume charred cabbage, charred pork or charred anything, for that matter? Why barbecue foods needs to be both charred and smoked - and sometimes even fried on top of everything? What’s with all the carcinogen addiction?

There are at least 2-3 supposedly “must try” restaurants opening every week and it is physically impossible to try them all but people feel compelled to keep trying, to the detriment of their waistline and cellulite levels…

Unfortunately, restaurant food can NEVER be as healthy or as lean as home-cooked food…

…and the more we eat out, the more we unavoidably consume extra and unhealthy calories, also cooked in an unhealthy way.

London's hectic lifestyle and lack of time means that many people rely on restaurant food or ready-made meals for their nutritional needs, and those meals are not innocent - even the supposedly “healthy” ones.

Although cuisine has vastly improved in the last 28 years I have been in this country, food still tends to be heavier, fattier, creamier, saltier and sweeter than in other European countries - quite often all of the above together.

Italian, Greek, Japanese, Thai and even Indian cuisine, for example, never included so much cream, butter, palm fat, rapeseed oil and mayonnaise. Sugar and sweet sauces are almost never included in Mediterranean savoury dishes.

Yet, pub and restaurant meals, as well as supermarket ready-made meals, are full of those ingredients. Why does one need mayonnaise in sushi? Why would a so-called Greek salad need a sweet sauce? And why the hell do we need all this cream in so many meals?

Not to mention the vile rapeseed oil and palm fat which are in almost everything. You buy some supposedly healthy humous made with “natural ingredients” and you realise that it contains anything between 25-30% oil, most of which rapeseed oil. Since when the Lebanese cooked with rapeseed oil? Since when a healthy hummus recipe, that should contain 10% fat, needs to contain 30% fat?

The other day I went to have a supposedly authentic Italian pizza and I discovered that they use soybean oil for their dough (which actually made their dough quite soggy and horrible according to reviews). Needless to say I did not eat there. Another quite popular pizza place in the middle of Marylebone was the same - you leave the place with your clothes smelling of seed oil. Since when soybean oil was grown in Napoli and used in pizza? This is an abomination.

Even the generally heavier traditional British food is even more heavy when bought in pubs, restaurants or as ready-made meals, as opposed to when it is cooked at home, from scratch.

And I may be complaining about London here, as I live in London, but this is a worldwide phenomenon: restaurant food is never better than home cooked food - nowhere in the world.

If you depend on restaurants you will get lots of questionable oils and fats, lots of sugar and lots of salt, all fried, charred, smoked, toasted or otherwise processed.

Frying, charring, smoking, sugar, cream, hydrogenated fats, seed oils, salt, forever chemicals, BPA and cellulite

I am repeating myself here but we are talking about food being cooked with a cheap, £1-a-kilo cooking oil coming out of a 25kg BPA-lined drum refried 20+ times over (or fried once but quite often in a chipped, forever chemical-lined pan), in sometimes questionable hygiene kitchens.

Plus, let’s not forget that 90% of restaurant food is made on a pan, which means frying of different types: deep frying, shallow frying, pan frying, stir-frying, wok frying, sautéing, flash frying, dry frying, plancha frying, double frying, tempura frying, confit frying etc etc etc.

This is in addition to charring (basically burning the food), smoking (meaning you ingest concentrated smoke), sous vide (meaning you ingest cooked microplastics) and other types of high temperature or otherwise unhealthy cooking.

The facts are that fried food, hydrogenated oils, other questionable oils, sugar, smoking and high temperature cooking are known to cause heart disease, cancer and, yes, oh yes, lots of cellulite.

Basically, don’t expect to go to the fast food shop, pub or restaurant - even high-end restaurant - and consume food made with some sort of cold-pressed, extra virgin, unrefined, organic, biodynamic, non-GMO oil in a dark, glass bottle. It ain’t gonna happen.

Believe me, even the most expensive restaurants use questionable oils or oils fried multiple times, i.e. highly oxidised / damaged oils. These may not contain trans fats in some restaurants but as they are fried these oils are lipoxidised nevertheless - definitely not good for your thighs, your heart or your acne.

Londoners - and people in large cities around the world - don't have much free time and as a result habitual consumption of convenience food, restaurant eating and pub food is a major cause of cellulite, obesity and civilisation disease.

If you want to prevent or reduce cellulite the advice is simple: eat at home and cook from scratch…

…and definitely not from tins, cans, pouches, sachets, microwaveable plastic pots etc.

This is the best way to ensure you put quality ingredients in your body and that you cook them healthily.

I’m not saying here that you should never set foot in a restaurant ever again but that if you care about your health - and the appearance of your thighs and bum - you should treat eating out exactly as it should be: as a treat, perhaps once one or two weeks, not as a habit 3-7 days a week.

How Western diet and lifestyle causes cellulite

The effect is always the same: adhering to the typical Western diet, physical activity patterns, stress and lifestyle (which more and more people around the world do, even in developing nations), has a negative effect on overall health, and specifically on the skin.

Metabolic inflammation, oxidative damage, poor circulation, glycation are all hallmarks of this lifestyle and are directly responsible for cellulite, skin laxity, water retention and skin ageing.

Have a treatment in London with the cellulite experts

At LipoTherapeia we have specialised 100% in skin tightening and cellulite reduction for more than two decades and 20,000+ sessions.

This is all we study and practise every day and have researched and tried hands-on all the important skin tightening equipment and their manufacturers.

As strong, deep acting radiofrequency and deep-acting, high-power ultrasound cavitation are the technologies of choice for skin tightening and cellulite reduction, we have invested in the best RF/ultrasound technologies in the world.

(Of course, we keep looking for new technologies every day and if/when a better technology materialises we will be the first to provide it. However, we will never follow the latest ineffective gimmick, just because it’s good marketing to offer the latest hyped up - yet ineffective and/or unsafe treatment.)

Furthermore, over the last two decades we have developed advanced RF and cavitation treatment protocols in order to make the most of our technologies, for maximum results, naturally and safely.

And for even better, faster results, we now combine our RF/ultrasound treatments with high-power red/infrared light LED treatment.

Our radiofrequency/ultrasound/LED treatments are comfortable, pain-free, downtime-free, injection-free, 99.5%+ safe and always non-invasive.

(No unsafe and ineffective RF microneedling or HIFU and no safe but ineffective acoustic wave therapy, superficial RF (bipolar/tripolar/multipolar etc), low power RF/cavitation, electrical muscle stimulation, lymphatic massage, cupping, dry brushing and no ridiculous bum bum creams.)

Our focus is on honest, realistic, science-based treatment, combined with caring, professional service, with a smile.

We will be pleased to see you, assess your cellulite, skin laxity or fibrosis, listen to your story, discuss your case and offer you the best possible treatment.
