“It doesn’t take a nutritional genius or an expert lifestyle coach to tell us that if we spend several hours a day watching reels on social media or pointless TV slop on netflix we will develop overweight and cellulite. Social media may occasionally offer some motivation for fitness or healthy eating but they take it all back by making us sitting on our ever expanding bottoms for hours on end; by giving us anxiety; and by brainwashing us with nutritional fads or extremely unhealthy recipes passing as “creative” or “time saving”...”

Does instagram and tiktok cause cellulite?
Social media and cellulite
London is bad enough with the indoors culture due to the weather, which results in little exercise and lots of snacking but we now also have an entire “indoors generation”, courtesy of instagram, youtube, tiktok, zoom, netflix etc.
And this indoor culture is not limited to cities like London, due to the weather, but it is a worldwide phenomenon and irrespective of weather.
However, sitting on a sofa/chair and endlessly scrolling and typing (or simply watching pointless TV series on netflix) does not do any favours to our heart, our waistline, our skin and indeed our cellulite.
Anti-social media and the netflix culture (endless and quite often pointless series we feel compelled to watch) are a major cause of cellulite today.
Social media: perhaps good for the 5%, definitely detrimental for the other 95%
Of course, social media can be a source for good, one would say, via all those motivating reels by 22-year old genetically gifted men and women who pretend to have become fit because of some exercise routine, supplement and diet fad.
Not to mention the photoshop and the filters.
However, for every person getting motivated to become fitter, healthier and slimmer there are countless others who end up developing anxiety and eating disorders by comparing themselves to the - often fake - ideal models of fitness, beauty and slim perfection.
And for every person benefitting from such motivation - or anxiety-inducing - reels there are countless others who simply waste their life away in the sofa scrolling to watch pointless “content” while eating comfort food and getting unhealthy and overweight.
Not the mention the millions of disgusting food recipes with smoked, burned, charred, smoked again, fried, charred again, burned, fried again food comprising fatty meat, 60 shades of sugar and countless forms of stodge (British: heavy, dull, often starchy food).
The other day I saw a reel that I will never be able to un-see: some social media nutritional genius made an “easy and rewarding recipe” comprising a can of sardines, chopped herbs on top of the canned sardines - still inside the can - and promptly set on fire a kitchen roll paper on top to char the still canned sardines and endow the still canned sardines with “a nice smokey aroma”.
If “recipes” like these do not cause cancer, heart disease and, yes, cellulite too, I don’t know what does - on top of being utterly disgusting, vapid and stupid. I mean, who in their right mind would like to smell and taste burned canned sardines endowed with kitchen roll paper smoke essence?
I rest my case: social media do cause obesity or anxiety to 95% of people and, yes, sure, they may, just may, help motivate the other 5%.
On the other hand, bingeing on TV box sets (which basically means lying on the sofa, barely moving a muscle and eating pizza and ice cream for an entire weekend) may not vause anxiety but does cause obesity.
How Western diet and lifestyle causes cellulite
The effect is always the same: adhering to the typical Western diet, activity patterns, stress and lifestyle (which more and more people around the world do, even in developing nations), has a negative effect on overall health, and specifically on the skin.
Metabolic inflammation, oxidative damage, poor circulation, glycation are all hallmarks of this lifestyle and are directly responsible for cellulite, skin laxity, water retention and skin ageing.
Have a treatment in London with the cellulite experts
At LipoTherapeia we have specialised 100% in skin tightening and cellulite reduction for more than two decades and 20,000+ sessions.
This is all we study and practise every day and have researched and tried hands-on all the important skin tightening equipment and their manufacturers.
As strong, deep acting radiofrequency and deep-acting, high-power ultrasound cavitation are the technologies of choice for skin tightening and cellulite reduction, we have invested in the best RF/ultrasound technologies in the world.
(Of course, we keep looking for new technologies every day and if/when a better technology materialises we will be the first to provide it. However, we will never follow the latest ineffective gimmick, just because it’s good marketing to offer the latest hyped up - yet ineffective and/or unsafe treatment.)
Furthermore, over the last two decades we have developed advanced RF and cavitation treatment protocols in order to make the most of our technologies, for maximum results, naturally and safely.
And for even better, faster results, we now combine our RF/ultrasound treatments with high-power red/infrared light LED treatment.
Our radiofrequency/ultrasound/LED treatments are comfortable, pain-free, downtime-free, injection-free, 99.5%+ safe and always non-invasive.
(No unsafe and ineffective RF microneedling or HIFU and no safe but ineffective acoustic wave therapy, superficial RF (bipolar/tripolar/multipolar etc), low power RF/cavitation, electrical muscle stimulation, lymphatic massage, cupping, dry brushing and no ridiculous bum bum creams.)
Our focus is on honest, realistic, science-based treatment, combined with caring, professional service, with a smile.
We will be pleased to see you, assess your cellulite, skin laxity or fibrosis, listen to your story, discuss your case and offer you the best possible treatment.
