How does ultrasound cavitation work?
How does deep tissue ultrasound cavitation work for cellulite removal?
Ultrasound cavitation is a technology that aims to provide both deep vibration and deep heat INSIDE the skin, as opposed to a superficial treatment that affects the surface of the skin.
Ultrasound is used to stimulate processes in the dermis and hypodermis (second and third skin layers, respectively, while at the same time not overheating the epidermis (as is the case with a hot shower, a hot pack or an infrared device.)
That’s the aim theoretically. In practice, most ultrasound treatments provide too much superficial treatment on the epidermis and so they miss the whole point. Plus most cavitation treatments are too weak to confer any significant benefit either.
The information below is about real cavitation, i.e. high-power, deep-acting cavitation, which if applied by a well-trained, experienced and knowledgable therapist can provide deep, intensive treatment, SAFELY.
The vibration and heat effect of high-power, deep-acting ultrasound on the hypodermis and dermis has 5 benefits:
Ultrasound stimulates fat release (lipolysis) from fat cells/adipocytes. This gradually leads to smaller cellulite bumps, over 6-12 sessions (you cannot effect fat reduction immediately or with just one session)
