Below you can see ultrasound imaging of severe fat accumulation, severe water retention, hypertrophic epidermis and weakened dermis of a ~50 year old pre-liposuction lipedema case.

In this case we see:
Hypertrophic epidermis (as a result of chronic inflammation in the area)
Extremely weak dermis, especially in images 2 and 3 (as a result of chronic inflammation in the area), which in most of the images seamlessly blends with the hypodermis
Severe hypertrophy of the subcutaneous adipose tissue (the hallmark of lipedema)
Severe water retention with “pools” of fluid between the hypertrophic adipose boluses
Diffuse but not severe fibrosis of the adipose tissue

In the above post-lipo images of a 30-year old lipedema case we observe:
Severely weakened dermis fusing with the hypodermis
Seroma, as a result of a recent liposuction, on the first image
Severe cellulite, especially on the 1st and 3rd images
Widespread scar tissue, as a result of liposuction, on the 2nd and 4th images
Not the excessive amounts of adipose tissue seen in the previous, older case, partially due to younger age and partially due to lipedema liposuction significantly reducing fat levels
Please note that despite the above issues, the lipedema liposuction was essential and successful, as it improved significantly both the patient’s appearance, risk of future complications and quality of life.

In the above images from the same case we observe:
Significant cellulite, weak but distinct dermis, scar tissue from the liposuction and diffuse mild fibrosis on the subcutaneous adipose tissue (1st images)
Weak dermis that fuses with the underlying tissues and severe cellulite on the 2nd image
Widespread fibrosis and adhesion, from a thigh lift scar after liposuction, with the dermis and hypodermis literally fusing, with consequent feeling of “pulling” and reduced range of motion
