Fasting for cellulite: does it make sense?

Fat is the most important aspect of cellulite. On the other hand, fasting is a proven method to reduce or maintain weight and also to fight ageing and improve a myriad health conditions, if practised within reason.

So it makes sense to use fasting, in its different various forms to reduce cellulite quickly or to prevent cellulite.

Fasting can be continuous for a few days or intermittent.

Continuous fasting for fast cellulite reduction

Continuous fasting can be preceded and followed by juicing and should never be longer than a few days (usually 3-4 days plus 1-2 days of juicing before and after).

In fact, vegetable smoothies and juices (without carrots, apples or other fruits), as well as berry smoothies, provide valuable anti-cellulite nutrients and add to the benefits of fasting.

Continuous fasting for a few days is a good idea to gain quick results in terms of cellulite reduction but it should never be extended to continuous fasting or to a starvation die: the body needs nutrients, plus anorexia is never a good thing.

Continuous fasting can be practised 1-6 times year.

Intermittent fasting for cellulite prevention

Intermittent fasting is much easier and more sustainable and can take the forms of:

  • 1:1 fasting: one day fasting, followed by one day of eating as usual

  • 2:5 fasting: 2 days of fasting, followed by five days of eating as usual

  • 1:6 fasting: fasting one day a week, followed by six days of eating as usual

  • 16:8 fasting: fasting for 16 hours a day, followed by 8 hours of eating as usual

  • Although not strictly fasting, 5:2 diets are very popular: five days of a strict diet (usually ketogenic, high carb, low carb etc), followed by two days of eating as usual

Intermittent fasting is great for cellulite prevention and for overall health maintenance and anti-ageing.

Important note

Always check with your doctor before fasting for more than a day and/or if you have any health conditions.

Fasting and exercise

Exercise is an important part of cellulite reduction and prevention, irrespective of calorie intake. As exercise is as important as diet and as exercise is incompatible to fasting, fasting has to be limited. Fasting should not be done at the expense of exercise and/or daily physical activity.

Fasting is great for cellulite but it has limitations

All in all, fasting is a great way to prevent and reduce cellulite, but its utility is limited:

  • Daily healthy eating, irrespective of fasting is also very important and regular fasting should not be the excuse to eat and drink with wild abandon the rest of the time

  • As mentioned above, exercise is equally important

  • For more pronounced/faster results, a real cellulite cream, (i.e. one with multiple, high-purity anti-cellulite actives in high concentrations) and a good cellulite treatment (the best are deep-acting, high-power radiofrequency and high-power ultrasound cavitation) are essential.
