“Frequent reliance on takeaway food, driven by delivery apps, significantly contributes to health problems, including cellulite. These meals, often prepared in substandard kitchens using cheap, repeatedly reused oils, are laden with salt, sugar, and processed ingredients. Various frying techniques—deep, shallow, pan, stir, wok, sautéing, air, flash, dry, plancha, double, tempura, and confit—alongside charring and smoking, involve high-temperature cooking that introduces harmful compounds. Such methods, combined with hydrogenated and low-quality oils, increase risks of heart disease, cancer, and cellulite, negatively impacting blood vessels, skin, and body shape. Even premium takeaways, while marginally better, pose similar health risks. The convenience of disposable containers adds environmental harm, with plastic waste sent to landfills or oceans. Regular takeaway consumption, increasingly common, undermines long-term health and appearance. The broader Western lifestyle, characterised by poor diet, inactivity, and stress, amplifies these effects, promoting metabolic inflammation, oxidative damage, poor circulation, and glycation. These processes directly cause cellulite, skin laxity, water retention, and premature ageing.”

Takeaway food culture and cellulite
“Don’t cook, just eat”, goes the motto of food delivery app Just Eat. Deliveroo and Uber Eats preach a similar philosophy: why bother to cook, when you can outsource your food?
Hey, you don’t even need to wash any dishes - you just send the plastic containers, knives and “sporks'“ to the landfill and to the ocean and job done.
Obviously things are not so simple. Takeaway food is not cooked in your forever chemicals-free ‘Green Pan’, on a Smeg stove, in a granite kitchen, with a £50-a-kilo extra organic virgin Toscano olive oil, coming out of a cute glass bottle.
We are talking about food being cooked with a cheap, £1-a-kilo cooking oil coming out of a 25kg BPA-lined drum refried 20+ times (or fried once but in a chipped, forever chemical-lined pan), in quite often questionable hygiene kitchens, housed in a shipping container at a car park, as per the Guardian article above.
Not to mention all the salt, the sugar, the processed cheese etc, which eventually have a profound effect on both your blood vessels, your skin, your thighs and your waistline.
Plus, let’s not forget that 90% of restaurant and takeaway food is made on a pan, which means frying of different designations: deep frying, shallow frying, pan frying, stir-frying, wok frying, sautéing, air frying, flash frying, dry frying, plancha frying, double frying, tempura frying, confit frying and more…
This is in addition to charring (basically burning the food), smoking (meaning you ingest concentrated smoke), sous vide (microplastics ring a bell?) and other types of high temperature or otherwise unhealthy cooking.
The facts are that fried food, hydrogenated oils, other questionable oils, sugar, smoking and high temperature cooking are known to cause heart disease, cancer and, yes, oh yes, lots of cellulite.
And last but not least, let’s consider the effect of food poured piping hot in a plastic container (and usually microwaved at home in the same container) or in a BPA-lined or forever chemical lined “paper” container.
And all those apply not just to cheap but also posh takeaways, which are marginally better than the cheap ones.
So, although the odd takeaway is not a big deal, having takeaways several days a month, as it is fashionable these days, is not a good idea - for those at least who care about their health and appearance.
So the moral of the story is cook at home most of the time, in order to have complete control of what you put in your mouth, stomach, blood vessels, brain and thighs.
How Western diet and lifestyle causes cellulite
The effect is always the same: adhering to the typical Western diet, activity patterns, stress and lifestyle (which more and more people around the world do, even in developing nations), has a negative effect on overall health, and specifically on the skin.
Metabolic inflammation, oxidative damage, poor circulation, glycation are all hallmarks of this lifestyle and are directly responsible for cellulite, skin laxity, water retention and skin ageing.
Have a treatment in London with the cellulite experts
At LipoTherapeia we have specialised 100% in skin tightening and cellulite reduction for more than two decades and 20,000+ sessions.
This is all we study and practise every day and have researched and tried hands-on all the important skin tightening equipment and their manufacturers.
As strong, deep acting radiofrequency and deep-acting, high-power ultrasound cavitation are the technologies of choice for skin tightening and cellulite reduction, we have invested in the best RF/ultrasound technologies in the world.
(Of course, we keep looking for new technologies every day and if/when a better technology materialises we will be the first to provide it. However, we will never follow the latest ineffective gimmick, just because it’s good marketing to offer the latest hyped up - yet ineffective and/or unsafe treatment.)
Furthermore, over the last two decades we have developed advanced RF and cavitation treatment protocols in order to make the most of our technologies, for maximum results, naturally and safely.
And for even better, faster results, we now combine our RF/ultrasound treatments with high-power red/infrared light LED treatment.
Our radiofrequency/ultrasound/LED treatments are comfortable, pain-free, downtime-free, injection-free, 99.5%+ safe and always non-invasive.
(No unsafe and ineffective RF microneedling or HIFU and no safe but ineffective acoustic wave therapy, superficial RF (bipolar/tripolar/multipolar etc), low power RF/cavitation, electrical muscle stimulation, lymphatic massage, cupping, dry brushing and no ridiculous bum bum creams.)
Our focus is on honest, realistic, science-based treatment, combined with caring, professional service, with a smile.
We will be pleased to see you, assess your cellulite, skin laxity or fibrosis, listen to your story, discuss your case and offer you the best possible treatment.
