Cranberries reduce fat accumulation - and consequently cellulite - by blocking fat metabolism

  • Cranberries have previously been found to decrease fat accumulation in fat cells by inhibiting their growth (adipocyte differentiation) and by blocking specific fat cell proteins, such as C/EBPalpha and PPAR-gamma.
  • However, new research has now shown that cranberries inhibit several other fat metabolism proteins (LPL, HSL, FAS, leptin and perilipin), which resulted in reduced fat accumulation and, as the authors of the study put it, reduced "adipose tissue mass production".
  • In summary, cranberries are not only helpful in the fight against obesity and cellulite because of their low calorie content and also due to their direct effect against fat cells and their metabolism.
  • This effect is probably due to cranberries' high content of proanthocyanidins and other polyphenols, as these phytochemicals are renowned for their anti obesity effect.
  • In summary, cranberries, unsweetened cranberry juice, cranberry extract food supplements and cellulite creams rich in cranberry extract or proanthocyanidins can be helpful in the fight against cellulite and / or overweight and obesity.
