How does High-Power Ultrasound Cavitation work?

It is widely accepted today that high-power, low frequency ultrasound treatment represents one of the most effective methods of cellulite reduction and local fat reduction. It often provides immediate results - if the right equipment is used with the right protocols.

High-power (100 Watts), low frequency (30 kHz) ultrasound waves preferentially and intensively vibrate the subdermis (where cellulite is located), exerting a double slimming effect on the cellulite tissues. Specifically, these ultrasound waves:

  • Increase fat cell membrane permeability which results in the release of fat into the bloodstream.
  • Create gas bubbles (cavities) inside the fat cells, which expand and consequently implode, breaking the fat cell membrane. This results in fat release into the bloodstream, as well as the elimination of the fat cell itself (adipocytes, being very fragile cells, are damaged, whilst other cells, such as fibroblasts, stay intact and actually benefit from the stimulus provided by ultrasound).
  • Provide mechanical stimulation which encourages the fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin fibres, thereby offering a skin tightening effect.

Ultrasound cavitation has been used for several years in Italy (known as “cavitazione con ultrasuoni”), and Italian women swear by it’s effectiveness, provided the right intensity is used, i.e. ~100 Watts. Most clinics and salons in London use equipment with power of 10-30 Watts, which is simply inadequate.

The fat reduction effects of ultrasound cavitation are long-lasting if you follow a healthy diet and exercise regime (it is very easy to deposit fat again into the tissues if one over-eats, drinks too much alcohol and/or stays very inactive).
