"How to get rid of cellulite?" About cellulite removal, cellulite cures, the "cellulite solution" and other myths and misconceptions...
The 8-step cellulite solution
Elsewhere on this website we saw that what we call cellulite is a combination of six different changes in your superficial tissues. According to that list, to reduce cellulite we must:
- Reduce the amount of superficial tissue fat
- Prevent excess water from leaking out of the capillaries and into the superficial tissues and making sure that this water is drained efficiently
- Improve the firmness and elasticity of the skin, so that fat globules cannot easily push the skin surface outwards and create the unsightly bumps
- Improve the quality of superficial connective tissue that holds the fat globules together, ensuring a smooth skin surface
- Eliminate inflammation, which is a cause of fluid retention, easy bruising and skin looseness
- Remove toxins and metabolic by-products that disrupt metabolic processes and lead to tissue deterioration
- Reduce deeper, non-cellulite fat deposits that worsen the appearance of cellulite. Although deep fat deposits are not part of cellulite, decreasing them would increase the overall appearance of the area.
- Prevent the reappearance of cellulite by identifying and changing the lifestyle choices that led to the development of cellulite, thereby also improving overall health. Cellulite reduction / prevention is not a treatment, it is a lifestyle which includes treatment.
Ludicrous claims and hype vs. responsible approaches
After looking at the complexity of the above list, you can appreciate how frivolous most anti-cellulite beauty treatments are. You simply can’t expect to get rid of your loss of firmness, and excess fat accumulation, and inflammation, and fluid retention, and scar tissue etc. with some electrical pads placed on your bum or with some "detox" clay wraps wrapped around your thighs. Not to mention detox foot baths that are ”known to expel toxins through your feet“, ludicrous “cellulite-busting” trainers, “fat dissolving” anti-cellulite patches, anti-cellulite jeans (!), “detox pacthes”, coffee-bean thigh brushing, dry body brushing or gossip-magazine "lose a stone in one week" diets...
No single thing can "cure" cellulite, a comprehensive plan is needed
Some treatments, high quality creams and a good diet / exercise regime are effective on their own, but have limitations. If you want real, long-term results then you have to be a bit more serious in your approach. For cellulite, what is needed is not “one thing”, not "one miraculous treatment", but a comprehensive plan that ideally includes treatment, creams and diet/exercise change that works on all the causes and symptoms of cellulite.
If you do follow such a plan, you can completely get rid of your cellulite, in 20% of the cases. We have seen many women in our practice become completely cellulite-free in the last 9 years, and these are the women who follow our plan properly (treatment, creams, diet/exercise) and whose cellulite is either not too old neither too much.
In 80% of the cases cellulite cannot be removed entirely - but it can be significantly reduced!
Excessive cellulite or cellulite established for more than 2 years (80% of the cases) is not possible to be removed entirely because of permanent damage in the connective tissue, but even in this case, with the right treatment plan and some active participation on your behalf, you may achieve some spectacular and long-lasting results and improve your appearance on the beach. However, in this case we would stop short of making claims about "removing" cellulite completely, because we want to be honest and responsible to you.
"Cellulite reduction" is the correct term - the terms "cellulite removal", "cellulite cure", "cellulite eraser" etc. are simply misleading
So let's be honest and responsible and talk about "cellulite reduction" instead of cellulite cure", "cellulite riddance" or "cellulite removal". These phrases are based on the naive assumption that cellulite can be "removed" easily and permanently with some quick fix miracle that money can buy, ideally one which calls for no effort other than applying an anti-cellulite cream or undergoing an anti-cellulite treatment. However, if things were so easy then there would be no cellulite in this world, at least for the most affluent women in this world, which obviously is not true...
Are the results permanent? Can I permanently remove/reduce my cellulite?
If you take care of your diet and exercise regularly after you finish with your course of cellulite treatments, yes, you can. However, if you start eating fattening foods, drink excessively and avoid movement, well, sorry, no...
The reason is that even after you eliminate your cellulite you can always create some new by eating badly and not moving enough. On the other hand, if you are careful you can stay cellulite-free for ever. However, thinking that after you remove your cellulite then it will never come back, regardless of how badly you may eat and how little you may exercise, is simply wrong. It actually goes against all laws of biology. Fat deposition is inherently linked to the survival of every animal species on this earth, not just humans. The same applies to connective tissue and blood and lymphatic vessels: if you don't use them you lose them - running the risk of becoming "flabby" and "puffy", respectively.
Don't believe the hype!
Beauty therapists or doctors that make you believe that they can delete all laws of biology with a (usually very expensive) treatment, are only after your money, so just don't believe them. If you are not careful, fat will always find a way, regardless of what treatment you may have had in the past and how expensive your doctor is... The same applies to smart lipo and liposuction which are actually irrelevant to cellulite but are promoted as cellulite reduction treatments...
Using creams or treatments as top ups for maintenance and cellulite prevention
...If however, you respect nature and the laws of biology (by eating healthily, exercising regularly and occasionally topping up with a good anti-cellulite cream and/or treatment) you have nothing to fear and you can stay firm, smooth and slim for life! As a rule of a thumb...
...the more you deviate from a healthy diet and regular exercise, the more you will need to use a cream or a treatment as a top up for maintenance.
